The power of timeless sustainability

The Glowbus mindset

All my life, I have been fascinated by beautiful, timeless objects. No so much for the status effect they create in our society, but for the happiness they bring their owners and the war they wage with our disposable society. It is the call that has lured me into starting to design objects and it is why I now, as an artist, create design fire pits which can stand the test of time, at least 150 years.

Trends or timeless existence?

Every five years, there is a new upcoming trend and everything which was considered beautiful before, is suddenly discarded in the bin. In our disposable society, most goods lose their value in a hellish tempo. Something which I, as an artist and as a sustainable thinking person, am resolutely against.

At the other end of this spectrum, you will find design icons such as the Lounge Chair by Charles & Ray Eames which saw the light of day in 1956 or the GyroFocus fireplace by Dominique Imbert. These objects (and many others) have not only succeeded in retaining their aesthetic value, but they are also growing in popularity and value. They are completely independent, free from trends. Medieval castle or glass high-tech villa, these design icons are the eyecatcher of it all. And that is an inspiring thought. The possibility of buying something which can bring a lifetime of enjoyment and, with some luck, increases in value.
As an artist, i create design fire pits and candleholders which can stand the test of time, at least 150 years.

Timeless fire pits

What makes it even better for me, is the connection of such design objects with an elementary force. I have always been fascinated by fire, ever since I was a small boy and I spent hours around the fireplace, to my life as circus artist and fire spitter of a street theater company. A passion which I have given shape in a timeless object, a fire pit to share this passion with the world.

The Dewdrop fire pits are made from high-quality weathering steel of at less 10 mm thick and will still be functional even in 150 years.

Destructive fire

Not so simple, because fire is also a destructive force. An object to regularly create fire in must be incredibly strong and be able to withstand rain and wind. A lot of cheaper fire pits can take no more than 5 wood blocks before falling apart. I want to be as far removed from that as possible. The Dewdrop fire pits are made from high-quality weathering steel of at less 10 mm thick and will still be functional even in 150 years and gain in beauty by the oxidation layer which gives weathering steel its appeal.

Fire connects generations

The fact that you can buy a sustainable fire pit today to create memories with your children who – when you are no longer around – can share memories around the same fire pit…That is an incredibly beautiful thought. Fire connects people and generations, so the fire pit will be advancing in our modern society, I am sure of it. The only thing we need for this, is our human desire for connection and social contact. The best stories were once told round a crackling fire, and that will always remain the same.

When you start telling your best stories, you decide for yourself. But we do like to help you a bit. Have a look at our design fire pits at a Glowbus dealer in your area.
